General Information

Your doctor arranges admission to Sydney Southwest Private Hospital.

You will be given an admission form to be completed and returned to the hospital at least FIVE business days prior to your admission where possible.

Our admission staff will contact you and advise of any costs associated with your admission.

You will receive a call from our Day Surgery staff the day before admission from 2.00pm so that we can discuss your admission time, medications and fasting requirements. This can at times be a lengthy process. Rest assured you will receive a call - your patience is greatly appreciated.

At this point, should you require any clarification on your admission, our staff will be only too happy to answer any questions or address any concerns that you may have about your stay with us.

On arrival, please visit our main reception staff.

Sydney Southwest Private Hospital has private and shared facilities with an ensuite in each room. All our private and shared rooms have personal bedside televisions, telephones and nurse call facilities. Local calls are free of charge and mobile calls/STD calls can be made using a phone card, which is available at reception. Our excellent facilities include:

Spiritual Care

You may request a visit from a representative of your faith and the hospital can arrange such a visit for you.

Please speak with the ward clerk or your nurse to arrange this.

If you prefer a visit from your own minister or religious representative, please feel free to contact them or ask the staff for help in doing so.

Telephone

Telephones are located beside each bed and all local calls are free of charge. Long distance calls need to go through reception, please dial 8.

Charges will apply for long distance calls.

To make a local phone call dial 0 for an outside line.

Discharge time for all patients other than Day Surgery patients is 10am.

Your nurse will arrange your paperwork on the ward and give you discharge medications, X-rays and any other items to take with you.

Please call in at Reception on the way out to finalise your paperwork and accounts.

We have a falls risk management program in place throughout the hospital called Catch a Falling Star.

Any patient identified as being at high risk of falling and potentially injuring themselves during their stay are included in the program.

An information sheet for patients and their loved ones will be provided.

Sydney Southwest Private Hospital's Environmental Services is responsible for providing cleaning services, linen and waste collection, and strives to keep the hospital well presented.

Our Maintenance Manager is responsible for ward and hospital equipment, including lighting.

Please inform a member of staff if you notice something requiring attention.

Please let a member of the nursing staff know if you are leaving the ward.

Managing and reducing infection rates is a major focus for all hospitals and hospital staff.

We encourage you and your visitors to always use the antibacterial handrub available in all patient rooms and throughout the hospital.

For your own well being and also your loved ones and staff no patients should receive a visit from anyone experiencing cold or flu symptoms or who has recently had vomiting or diarrhoea.

All patient medications will be reviewed by a pharmacist.

You may request to speak with a pharmacist at any time who can assist you with a medication management plan.

Please ensure you have a clear current list of your medications and bring a supply of your medication to the hospital to reduce the need for further prescription costs.

Our patients are at all times our priority. We practice patient centred care.

You will notice that in your room there is an information folder consisting of a patient information guide, a feedback form and a notebook for you to use for any questions you may have for your doctor or nurse.

There is also information on the REACH program located in each room.

You and your relatives have the right to request a medical review at anytime if you feel there is an unexpected change in your condition that is causing you immediate concern.

Sydney Southwest Private Hospital is recognised by all major health funds that will reimburse treatment costs depending on your level of coverage.

We will provide you with an estimate of hospital charges and outline the level of cover by your fund and any out-of-pocket expenses you may incur.

Prior approval is sought for compensable patients (i.e. WorkCover or DVA).

If you do not have private health insurance please contact us prior to your admission to obtain an estimate of the cost of your stay.

Your account must be paid in full on admission.

Payment can be made by EFTPOS, Visa or Mastercard, bank cheque, money order or cash. Fees apply to credit card transactions. Unfortunately we are unable to accept AMEX payments.



Please be aware that Sydney Southwest Private Hospital promotes a smoke free environment.

As a Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) partnering hospital, DVA patients have immediate access to our care, without the need for prior approval in most cases.

We realise hospital and related charges can sometimes be a little confusing, so please ask for guidance, we are more than happy to assist with your enquiries.
